Mandau sword with a strong straight blade, cut slantwise, and widening towards the end. One side is engraved and inlaid with the brass filings. The hilt is of yellowish bone with an ornament carved in black. The remains of tufts of black goat’s hair can be seen on the bone. The lower part of the hilt has rotang decoratively entwined round it. No sheath. Kajan, central Borneo. Probably from the collection of E.S.Vraz. Lenght of blade: 57.5 cm.; lenght of hilt: 13.5 cm.; maximum width of blade: 4.2 cm. This is especially Kalimantan’s weapon.
