Gari Telegu sword is names of Nias weapon, the handle a fantastic, stylised boar’s head with powerfu tusk, richly carved in red brown wood; a brass band, simply engraved, joins it to the blade. The latter is made of steel, is smooth, widens out towards the point, and has a straight back. The cutting edge is slightly curved on the inside. The scabbard consist of two strips of reddish brown wood held together by twelve board brass bands. Three is a shaped grip at the upper end, after which the sheath narrows, ending in a coil. On the right hand side at the back of the sheath narrows, ending in a coil. On the right hand side at the back of the sheath a brass ring is attached to the last of the brass bands and carries the first link in a brass chain. Southern Nias.
